Car Camera Loop Recording: What is It & How It Works?

You may have seen that some of the most viral videos online come from inside a vehicle while someone is driving. How do these drivers safely record? Dashcams, or cameras installed on the dash or windshield of the vehicle, are a great way to have a record of your commute. This technology is great for finding out who is at fault in an accident or even acting as a GPS tracker if needed.

A key feature that you’ll want to look for while searching for the perfect dash cam is loop recording. Here is a brief overview of how it works and what you need to know.

What is Car Camera Loop Recording?

The loop recording dashcam feature is useful for ensuring that your camera continues to record, even if the SD card becomes full. The camera is able to continually record because it stores video footage in small time frames, which typically range from 1 to 5-minute increments.

When the card becomes full, the dashcam will automatically delete the oldest file. This allows the camera to continually record a new file. It is a great feature for those who prefer to not manually exchange SD cards or offload footage… but what happens if you’d like to keep all of your footage?

How to Avoid Losing Footage

If you have a moment that you’d like to keep the footage of, or in the unfortunate incident of an accident, then you’ll likely not want the files automatically erased. To avoid losing your footage, Redtiger loop recording dashcam has a file protection feature that prevents it from being erased.

The two most common ways that dashcams will protect your footage are a manual SOS feature or by utilizing the G-sensor. The manual SOS feature allows you to select the SOS button that manually saves the current file. With this button being pressed, your file will either be protected or stored in a separate memory folder. The G-sensor is a feature that all dashcams have. This sensor is responsible for sensing vibrations, so the camera is aware of an accident and can protect the file.

What Happens if You Turn Loop Recording Off?

The loop recording feature is a great option for those who wish to not delete files manually, but there are some instances that you may wish to turn it off. If you choose to do so, then the video files will not be automatically deleted. In that case, you will no longer have any recordings after the dashcam SD card is full. To continue recording, you’ll need to manually clear the card.

Multi-Feature Loop Recording Dashcam

If you’re in the market for a dashcam, then you’ll want to look for a multi-feature loop recording dashcam. This will ensure that you get the highest quality technology with multiple features that are beneficial for you. Features such as auto-start and auto-record, loop recording, the ability to hold a high-capacity SD card, and secure attachment abilities are just the beginning of what to look for.
